The Sun and Moon will be at 6 degrees 6 seconds of arc when they oppose each other to bring about the greatest illumination of the Moon from the Sun’s radiance, otherwise known as “Full Moon”. The number 6 refers to the qualities of Venus as an artist, peacemaker, friend and nurturer desiring to create harmony and beautiful surroundings. Very close to the Sun in Virgo is Jupiter which powers up the Sun’s influence as Jupiter magnifies whatever it contacts. The sign of Virgo relates to the Virgin, the Maiden, and the pure one which at its best maintains a certain level of humility and service to honor the process of tending to the “earthly” delights. Virgo, rooted to the Earth, maintains the farm, tends to the life sustaining routines that nourish and foster life knowing that even the most tedious and mundane tasks will lead to peaceful contentment and good health. There is a theme emerging that lends itself to taking care of that which is physical or “earthbound” and nurturing our lives by caring for that which is “good” for us or helps us to flourish. The Moon in Pisces is not standing alone either as it is very close to the ruler of Pisces, Neptune. This amplifies the Pisces energy which is known for being sensitive, dreamy, intuitive and ethereal with one foot in this world and one in the stars or heavens. Rather than being ruled by the element of Earth, it is ruled by water and the expression of water would be likened to vapor. The Piscean realm evaporates the Ego and steps into states of universal consciousness, spiritual unity and bliss, as one feels connections to all that is. From this connection, Pisces develops a level of compassion as it can empathize through its ability to “Feel it ALL”. The Moon connects to our internal feelings as it is the yin to the Sun’s yang, so we may feel some pulls at the heart either from our own experiences or from the thin membrane connecting us to the hearts of all beings. Of additional interest is that Jupiter once ruled Pisces, before we knew of Neptune’s existence. Jupiter is known for being optimistic and a believer in hope and good fortune. Part of its quest is to find the greater meaning in things, the wisdom gained from the “dharma kaya”. The polarity of Virgo and Pisces creates the connection between Earth and Heaven. We have an opportunity during this Full Moon to tap into that which lies beyond, from the source of all creation to reignite our sense of hope and faith. As we root into the Earth from the grounded essence of Virgo, we can hold space to then launch out and beyond. What are your dreams? What do you envision for yourself without limits? How can you heal and have compassion for all parts of yourself- physical, mental, emotional and spiritual? This is a “Super Moon” meaning it is closer to Earth than other Moons, magnifying the influence even more. Be well and open to the messages, signs and symbols from all that is as we enjoy this journey as “Earth walkers”.

The Sun recently entered the sign of Virgo on August 23rd. Jupiter also entered into Virgo on August 12th which means both are in the early degrees of Virgo. Each zodiac sign has 30 degrees and these two large fiery bodies are situated in the beginning degrees. They will create a bonded force or merged effect as astrologers say “conjunction”. As we may remember the School House Rock educational song “Conjunction Junction- what’s your function?” referring to “And, But and Or” which are connecting words that “join” two words. In astrological terms it references the close proximity of two Planets as evidenced by gazing at the sky OR looking at an astrological chart, you will see them right next to each other. This merged influence can be powerful and magnify the properties of each other. When we are considering the Sun which is the gravitational force that all Planets rotate around and Jupiter which is the largest Planet in the solar system, this can be a “big day”. If we break down the motivations of each body, we know that the Sun is life force energy, the planet that can be representative of our ego. If we know nothing of astrology, we probably know our “sun” sign as it depicts the “I am”, the essence of our character, the part of us we “beam” or radiate out into our world. It is yang, active, and expressive energy. Jupiter is motivated by optimism and faith, our beliefs that pave the road for the higher mind and the greater meaning of life. Where we find Jupiter in our chart can depict where we feel confident and buoyant, choosing to typically see the glass as “half full” rather than “half empty”. If we deny or have issues embracing our Jupiter, it can be the area that we may underestimate ourselves which seeks to be healed and an area of strength in our lives. It is like “Tigger” from Winnie the Pooh who is often boisterous and exuberant. Known as the “Planet of Expansion” it can “inflate” whatever it touches.
When we combine the essence of Virgo, we are filled with images of the “virgin” or “purity” as the humble maiden who is driven to serve. As it contemplates all the details and tasks at hand, it sees the potential for the diamond, if it will take the methodical steps to cut and polish the imperfections along the way. It is rooted in the Earth and sees the mundane as a means to an end and not something to run away from but rather embrace as part of the journey. It is aware of imperfections, ruled by Mercury, it can be a mental energy leading to worry and doubt if it does not keep “doing” what is necessary to produce a “harvest”. As all things astrology, there are other players in the mix. Neptune, the god of dreams, visions and magic wants to be acknowledged for the infinite abyss of possibility in all that could unfold. Rather than hold tightly to any “earthly” manifestations of fruition, the god of the Sea recommends floating along the tides noticing magic within and without all that emerges, the momentary unfolding of spontaneous creation. The awareness of all that moves beyond that which one can concretely defend and to rather see the delusions that may exist in the pursuit of the notion of “perfection”. Saturn, Father Time, who prefers we make use of” idle hands” acknowledging that mastery takes hard work and discipline, “side swipes” the merriment of the Sun and Jupiter’s grandiosity. He advises to remember there are deeper things going on below the surface as he “finishes business” in the realm of the soul and shadow, we can’t just take on a new service, health-kick or workout regime without learning from our past experiences that have brought wisdom. There is good support coming from the Moon today to be pragmatic and "stay on task" even when you might be challenged to drift or just inherently believe it will all magically come together without any effort. There is power in releasing and allowing the alchemist's hands to work through all stages of the process. All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages. ~William Shakespeare
Leo, the actor and artist of the zodiac seeks expression out in the world. Ruled by the Sun, it seeks to shine its light brightly upon everything in its path as it beams creativity and a zest for the drama of life. We associate Leo with children as unfiltered purity of self-expression is the ultimate goal and source of satisfaction. As we are all creative individuals, the Leo in us is where we can draw upon our playful and youthful vibrancy. As this is the 2nd fire sign in the zodiac, it does best when there is an audience or reflection that can catch the flow of passionate play. For part of Leo’s greatest joy is “lighting up” those around them. Love, the warm sensation that makes one’s heart skip a beat, is part of Leo’s master plan. Love of self is the first seed of energy and through its vibration carries that love to all it touches. If Leo does not have a way to unleash its fiery expressive impulses, it will create and make drama. Drama can lead to stress and exhaustion and a cycle of solar ‘flare ups’ which while utilizing the energy, is not the best strategy to satisfy the Leo’s playful heart. With this New Moon we have a close connection with Venus, the goddess of Love. Venus is retrograde or flowing in a reverse direction leading to energy turning inward. This is an excellent opportunity to shine that Leonine love to one’s self. Self-love is powerful and essential for being able to shine your love light on another. Self-love allows one to feel satiated, satisfied, content and at peace. Many struggle with loving the self as we are quick to criticize ourselves and feel that we are “flawed” or undeserving of love. Truth be told, we emanate from pure love and are created from love, the energy that supported our very call into existence. As many spiritual teachings will proclaim “Nothing is real but love”. The planet Uranus is lending a hand in “awakening” ourselves to love. Uranus in Aries offers a fresh perspective, a detachment from the minutia to a cosmic vision of our genius potential. He advises us to rely on our instinctive knowing and have the courage to blaze our own trail, appreciating our unique offerings and cherishing that we are not all the same, but different flecks of a rich tapestry, coming together to make beautiful masterpiece. The final moments of Cancer Moon are upon us, squeezing out what remains of those emotional fragments. Heightening the “feeling space” is Mars nearby in the early stages of Leo. Leo can be expressive, fiery energy and with the active force of Mars if it shall not have a way to release, it can create drama. If things are stirring inside, get active, passionate and expel the fire within. Saturn is trying to help us get closer to that which we may have pushed aside, buried in the shadows.
Jupiter has moved in the Virgo arena. Jupiter likes to “make bigger” all that it touches. “Supersize Me” is its motto. A sizable planet itself, only second in size to our Sun, it cannot be ignored. As it prompts Virgo to be the “full monty”, what can we expect over the next year or so? What does Virgo on “steroids” look like? Well the humble, virgin maiden can be geared towards service and the impulse for perfection in all that it touches. In order to achieve this perfection, it pays close attention to all the details to make sure the process leads to a masterpiece. No short order, that is for sure. With keen focus, one can also get a little obsessed with the details leading to neurosis if not kept in check. As Virgo is an Earth sign, it roots us into the physical world. We may feel compelled to honor our bodies be it through diet, exercise, or a relaxing day at the spa. One challenge for Virgo is to take a break from the “doing” and trust in the universe to take the reins once in a while. The trap of perfection can lead to criticism and worry, which doesn’t serve anyone in the long run. The wonderful capacity with this energy is the stamina and commitment to see things through as it maintains its “eyes on the prize”. The trick is to enjoy every step of the journey remembering the end goal. What is it in your world that you would like to improve regarding your health and earthy endeavours? Anything that helps to bring calm to your physical center be it through service to others, making nourishing meals, or knitting scarves for the coming winter. This is a time for self-improvement and as we are all universally connected, we naturally improve the lives of those around us through our “rooted” and life sustaining practices. The Sun is holding tight with a few allies in Leo- Venus, Jupiter and Mars. Venus is currently doing a review of what we value- individually and in our relationships- friendships, acquaintances, and lovers all are included in the recollection. What is important to us in areas of beauty, material life, and work/play balance? Are we able to fully express our innate creativity and individuality? How are our relationships falling into areas of drama and narcissism, rather than respectful appreciation of all the kids in the sandbox? As Jupiter has been in Leo for the past year, we may have felt some encouragement from the “God of Expansion” to live our drama, express our creative gifts, and play like naïve children seeking to shine our light as bright as possible. In that self-expression, we may have gotten carried away if rode the wave of “Me, Me, Me” too far into shore and hit the sand, or we may have discovered a part of ourselves that really needed to express. Tomorrow the tide will turn for Jupiter as it moves into Virgo. We may have become a little carried away in fiery Leo potentially expanding our waistlines or pocketbooks, only to get our health and grounded sensibility back as Virgo takes the reigns. The latest entrant into Leo is Mars, who is just beginning the journey. Jupiter may have set the stage or seeded the vision and now Mars will drive our desires to take action and make it happen until around Sept 24th when he moves into Virgo. You may find a desire to play and flirt with the game of life as the child within takes on center stage in the active parts of your life. Games, theatre, art and passionate “in the moment” assertion may find its way into your activities. To make things a bit more interesting, Saturn is holding court in the last degrees of Scorpio which causes friction to all the creative energy. Saturn wants us to be responsible and strategic with our time and not fritter away the moments in joyful self-discovery. Saturn is acting as the parent to the creative child. If they can work out their differences, the Leonean force will appreciate Saturn’s directive so that the flowing creativity can manifest. The relationships that are up for review can be harnessed in a stable container and achieve maturity while still honoring individual expression. All of this today is under the mood of Cancer, where the Moon has currently moved into this morning. The Moon is comfortable there as it is the “natural ruler”. The Moon concerns our heart and emotions so if you “feel” anything welling up inside you, pay attention and let it come out. A good cry may be what is in store so don’t fight it but rather, feel a sense of security as “Mother Moon” tries to help you engage your raw and pure heart space.
