Happy Equinox – 13th Sign Shenanigans
Today is the Fall Equinox or when night and day are EQUAL in time, 12 hours each. This is also the day that we enter the sign of Libra at 0 degrees, every year. In fact, we base the western astrological system on Seasons of the Sun from Earth, which is called the Tropical Zodiac. We draw a circle around Earth for the Sun’s path, into 4 quadrants which mimics the 4 seasons- Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. We have 12 signs so we divide those quadrants into 3 months each, the duration of each Season, and now have “houses”, and a layout for the chart. The energies and qualities of the 12 signs flow with the natural rhythms and cycles of our lives on Earth. Sidereal Zodiac is the system Astronomers use to map the sky. They do not use the perspective of the Earth, but rather the stars in relation to the Sun. Of course, this is a valid way to measure what they can see but sure doesn’t take into account the strong influence of where we are within the Universe, which is what the Tropical Zodiac addresses. The Tropical Zodiac is arguably more “Earth centered”, making it very relevant energetically for us as “Earth Walkers”. So KEEP your Sun Sign, it fits you perfectly.

From walking home and talking loads To seeing shows in evening clothes with you From nervous touch and getting drunk To staying up and waking up with you But now we're sleeping at the edge Holding something we don't need All this delusion in our heads Is gonna bring us to our knees So come on let it go Just let it be Why don't you be you And I'll be me ~James Bay “Let it Go” Today at 12:07 PM PST, there will be a Lunar Eclipse. It will be Appulse or just a bit short of full coverage of the Moon by the Earth’s Shadow. We will not see this in North America, but we may feel the effects. It is in Pisces at 24 degrees, 19 seconds of Arc. This song by James Bay has been playing often on the radio lately, perhaps you have heard it. It encapsulates the energy of Pisces- going to shows, drinking, sleeping at the edge and holding something we don’t need. Pisces likes to live in that etheric, trancelike space of consciousness where music, drugs and love can take you. The places that transcend time and sometimes the truth of reality. “All this delusion in our heads Is gonna bring us to our knees” as it can be known to see things through a lens of illusion. If you put on a pair of fuzzy goggles, you may see amazing orbs of light and beauty, but is it real? It is for the observer in that moment and the feeling of that can lift the person beyond the mundane. But how do we reconcile living in causative physical reality and also embrace the mystical enchantment telling us that there is more than the space we can see? This can bring on suffering “bring us to our knees” as Pisces can be familiar with when holding the awareness of so much more that is impermanent. It turns out this artist, James Bay, has a Pisces Moon and a Sun in Virgo. He is singing from his heart, Moon, about his experience of merging with another which Pisces can also do in its efforts to be in a space of “oneness”. The blissful place of feeling interconnected space with everything and all that is, a place of no separation. It is a beautiful thing to feel this connection. It leads to incredible compassion and unconditional love. And yet, in that “why don’t you be you, and I’ll be me”, a recognition that we must also be ourselves. The Sun in Virgo questions "Is it true and what about my perceptions could be imagined?" Much of Pisces is about surrender. Letting go of that which does not serve us. As the South Node of the Moon or the past, touches Neptune, Ruler of Pisces, we are asked to let go of what does not serve our highest good. We all know what that is for ourselves. As Saturn, the Lord of Concrete Reality is squaring Neptune, we come across the friction of “how do I really commit to what I believe in?” It can be working trying to find the balance point between knowing that we must do our earthly routines and tasks to make something, to serve some greater good (Virgo) and yet I cannot forget my connection to something beyond this physical terrain that carries me through the dark nights and transcends the harsh realities (Pisces). What is of most importance to me and what can I choose to stand behind (Saturn)? What can I let go of so that I can open up my heart to compassion and stay humble? Letting go of illusions and circling back to carry forward that feeling “oneness” as I try to bring Heaven to Earth. We need clarity of our mission and purpose for ourselves to stay disciplined (Saturn) to follow through with ability to improve something (Virgo) Wherever this degree (24’19 Pisces) is where you may be asked to sit and feel that space as the Moon guides you. Ask her what shall I release and what shall I carry with me? What can I become responsible for in my life and commit (Saturn) to improving (Virgo)? Love and compassion for all souls, Jen Jupiter enters Libra – Time for Balance The Planet Jupiter moved into the sign of Libra on September 9th. Jupiter spends an entire year in a sign so we have just finished up a year in Virgo. Virgo focuses on self-improvement, health, a craft or skill, and in general improving upon something in an orderly, consistent, methodical fashion. It has the uncanny ability to discern what is needed to be ‘make better’. If the past year found you focusing on improving things for yourself or even some type of healing, Jupiter may have been lending a hand. One thing that is certain about Jupiter is that it EXPANDS what it touches. Perhaps this has to do with the fact that next to the Sun it is the largest Planet in our known Solar System. Expansion can be a wonderful influence if we are keen to have something be even bigger in our lives. Conversely, some things in life we may not want to look at and Jupiter will make that rather difficult to ignore. So what are our considerations with Jupiter now moving into Libra? Well, we know archetypally the symbol for Libra is the Scales of Justice. This symbol depicts the fact that Libra desires balance which ultimately leads to a calm and peaceful feeling. However, this is not always where Libra finds itself naturally. Libra has keen awareness of both sides of a story, which arises a level of conflict, which do I choose? Do I have to choose? I can understand both perspectives! Standing in the middle creates a level of chaos as one can feel split in two. As a mental sign, it engages the mind. Once it has asked itself what is truly arising from within and where it is being most led, it needs to take a stand to create ‘balance from within’. Libra is ruled by Venus and this Planet also rules Taurus. Taurus is a ‘yin expression’ of Venus or a more passive, internal energetic that supports itself from nourishing the animal within, rooting into the body for guidance. Libra is the ‘yang expression’ of Venus which calls upon an active force going outwards to achieve its aims. In other words, ‘do not go gentle into that good night’, ‘rage, rage against the dying of the light’. Rage? Not quite a word we associate with Libra, it sounds more like Aries. Aries is the opposite sign and Libra can learn some lessons from the polarity. Take a Stand! We know that in the world of ‘Justice’ and legality, a decision must be made. If you feel an edge right now in certain areas of your life, it may due to the fact that things are not quite in balance or they are skewed to one side that does not really fit with your desires. The BIG area for all of us to put into balance concerns ‘Relationships’. Jupiter is expanding any inequalities and misalignment's that may be occurring for us in our relationships. In efforts to try to help us achieve more peace in our lives, Jupiter may be making that issue that seemed quite small or something we thought we could ignore FRONT and CENTER, and in our FACE. Ugh! That does not sound fun right? Well of course we don’t like chaos, however that issue really wants to be dealt with so that we can move forward and grow, restoring a sense of harmony. If we recognize what may not be working, we can make strides and changes to restore wholeness. If we live superficially which can be one of Libra’s shadows, we are just building resentments, distance and in the long run dissatisfaction. Personally we may also feel areas of our inner relationship with ourselves that may also be out of equilibrium. Pay attention and use the lessons of the opposite sign Aries to have the courage to address what may arise for you over the next year. And remember that ‘Rome was not built in a day’ so we need to have patience and awareness that life is a process and things may not change overnight. By taking steps every day to work towards our desires, we can create more peace in our lives and our world. Solar Eclipse in Virgo 9 degrees 21 seconds of arc 2:03 AM PST On September 1, 2016, we have a Solar Eclipse. The Moon will eclipse the Sun and dim its light as it moves in front of this great ball of fire. As the Sun is our vitality and light bearer, we take notice when it goes into the shadows. The Moon relates to our emotional terrain and as its movement obscures the Sun, we can feel something dramatic, mirroring the unusual experience in the sky. Eclipses follow a 19 year cycle, returning to the same place they were 19 years ago. This would mean in September of 1997, there was a similar theme or life event occurring. As the Sun is so prominent in our “Solar System”, the events are rarely hidden from our view. Job and career changes, relationship changes, moving or relocating may occur under Eclipses. As we don’t expect the Moon to block out the Sun, we can find these changes feeling somewhat unexpected. What may appear sudden really serves to put us on the right track, no matter how far it may feel from where we were headed. To unpack the energy of this eclipse, we need to look at what Planets are forming an aspect to the Sun and Moon. Neptune is opposing the Sun and Moon. Whenever there is an opposing force, we are asked to bring something into balance. We strive to hear both sides, and aim towards a middle ground, appeasing both camps to a point that they can coexist. Neptune connects to the “ALL”, the infinite chasm of the universe, the non-rational, that plays in the arena of timeless and formless reality to connect with what we may call “God” or “Goddess”. Neptune spiritualizes us through connecting to something greater and giving us moments of “ahhhhh”. Neptune can also cause us to feel disillusioned, lost, confused and aimless as it opens a part of us connected to transcendent states. Addictions can be attributed to Neptune as they can take you out of concrete reality and into the abyss or getting you “high”. These can be shortcuts to nirvana but eventually do not hold water as the attachment to something to take you there eventually proves lackluster. The purpose is to remind us to have compassion and not get too caught up in the details of human existence, we are more than that. In steps Saturn who governs concrete reality and time, quite different energy than Neptune. Saturn in Sagittarius does seek answers to the great mysteries, however does want to make something tangible or be working towards a goal. We are being asked to harness how we get into our “zone” with Neptune and not just float off into the daydream but concretize it. Make something of it or at least feel a stronger connection to our “faith” centers, the part of us that believes in something. This Solar Eclipse is in the sign of Virgo. Virgo is known for being busy in the world, always paying attention to details and moving about from one task to another. It is motivated by service and improving something. Virgo feels validation from seeing order amidst the chaos and knowing how to make things better. Virgo in its less than optimal expression can get too hung up on details and take on a “glass is half empty” type of viewpoint, getting paralyzed by the imperfections it sees. Ideally we harness compassion, slow down, consider and review what we know and perhaps take a little bit different approach in moving forward. The Eclipse may have brought up something for us to address, something that is that shadow part of us that we want to heal and improve. Our egos may feel a little bruised as we address what may have shifted in us. New Moons are seed times. With the theme of Virgo, we can plant seeds with the intention of improving ourselves. Think back to the time of September 1997 and what was occurring then. What have we learned since then that we can apply to our current dilemmas? If we can hold true to ourselves with the understanding that we are connected to something so vast and infinite, we can move mountains by putting one foot in front of the other, with the awareness that there is a higher purpose. We can strive to reach our own definition of perfection. The hiccups and changes are trying to bring us closer to our truest selves and our souls desire to grow and evolve during this lifetime. Find where 9 degrees of Virgo lands in your natal chart to understand the areas of your life that are being triggered right now. For me personally, I was embarking on a new business venture in 1997, opening a gift store in San Francisco that would carry imports from Bali, Indonesia. I was navigating the terrain of a new career, self-employment, a new puppy, and my overall my community and social sphere was changing as Virgo hits my 11th house. I remember it to be an exciting time as I let myself take a leap, yet a certain amount of uncertainty was also hanging in the balance. I can reflect on that time and where I am now on my life journey, trying to bring forward some of the lessons learned.
