The Sun is a beaming pulse of life-force energy supporting our growth and ability to thrive. It is a critical player in our vitality. Everyone knows their astrological Sun sign as we live in a solar society that admires and enjoys the “great ball of fire”. Astrologically, the Sun sign we were born under holds the essence of “who we are”, the "I", the ego that has its own individual motivations and desires. As the Sun is of central importance to our "Solar System”, it is also of central importance as individuals for all of us need a healthy ego in order to energize our lives. How we go about fortifying our ego will be suggested by your Sun Sign.
Today the Sun moves into the sign of Scorpio. Scorpio is a fixed water sign known for intensity, depth, wit and humor. It seeks to push the edges to find the limits, the boundaries, and the raw truth in experience. Facing the harsh reality of death through decay as well as the ecstasy of sexual intimate bonding makes the Scorpio feel “alive” through experiences that contact the soul. Scorpio is aware of the ability to transform darkness into light as it focuses on death and rebirth, soul renewal. Therefore, Scorpio can be rather intolerable of superficiality and frivolous matters. This afternoon on the West Coast, we will have a Partial Solar Eclipse when the New Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun, taking away some of the Sun’s light. Eclipses are dramatic visually as well as the effect on us, “as above, so below”. Lunar eclipses can be viewed easily without eye protection whereas Solar Eclipses require some type of filter to protect you from blindness. As the Moon relates to our internal emotional experience, there is a call to bring forth what may be hidden in the darkness, sheltered from the external world. As the Moon claims some of the Sun’s light, it wants to reveal or “shine light” on emotional themes. As this Eclipse occurs in Scorpio, it will be inclined to illuminate issues of intimacy, power, and control. To find the individual impact, you would look to the place in your personal astrological chart to find 1 degree Scorpio. The house it falls will tell you the area of life where emotional baggage is brought to the surface ready to transformed and healed, integrated into the whole. As Venus moves into Scorpio today to join the Sun and Moon, there is also an emphasis on relationships from the “goddess of love”. Can we hold the light up to our “shadow”, the parts of ourselves we may have shamed, buried or denied and invite it to the table with another to be remembered? Can we have the courage to expose the totality of our humanity, the dark and the light, in intimate bonding with self and other? As the eclipse unfolds, do not make sudden changes but rather feel into the experience and open to the messages from your soul desiring to be brought to light and transformed.

The Moon is in the sign of Cancer today, her natural placement or ruler so she feels very much at home. Home is very much a place the Moon likes to be. As the Great Mother, Mamakilla, she watches over us in the darkness as we rest and rejuvinate in the place we call home. The Moon wants to nurture the emotional body, help us feel safe and secure, and connected with our hearts. Today we have an opportunity to connect with our feelings, the support to mother ourselves and others, and check in with what our emotions want to say to us. In the early part of the day, the moon will flow with Neptune reminding us to be compassionate, open up to all that is, and pay attention to our dreams and synchronicities. The idea is to invite ourselves to feel and dream, engage the intuitive non-rational side of us, and not try to make logical sense of it as that may lead to confusion. Around noon Pacific Standard Time, the Moon will oppose Pluto in Capricorn. This could unearth emotions we have buried, kept at bay, or refused to look at consciously. As our subconscious emerges, we may feel some intensity and drama may pursue. Be aware of what may be the real issue in entanglements that seem to be over trivial matters. There may be an opportunity to get to the core of the issue and if we can avoid becoming overwhelmed, reactive or paralyzed by our emotions. After the Moon wrestles with Pluto throughout the afternoon and evening, she will meet up with Uranus. Uranus will be asking her to "awaken" to these subconscious emotional experiences and have a "breakthrough". Have the courage to see things differently, break open our emotional limitations and find new ways to open the heart.
Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart There's nothing I can do A total eclipse of the heart Once upon a time there was light in my life But now there's only love in the dark Nothing I can say A total eclipse of the heart ~Bonnie Tyler A Total Lunar Eclipse will occur October 8th at 3:25 AM PST and last for about an hour. During a Lunar Eclipse the Earth is in between the Sun and Moon, casting the Earth’s shadow upon the Moon. The Earth’s atmosphere filters the light from the Sun causing a red glow on the Moon as it traverses through darkness back into light. The Sun is in the sign of Libra and the Moon is in the opposite sign of Aries. Like the Scales of Justice, one side of the polarity has Venus and the Sun hanging together in a most harmonious relationship. Venus enjoys the peace achieved through compromise, interplay, and watching her reflection as she radiates under the Sun’s golden light. The Sun desires to cast its gaze upon Venus as she is pleasing to look at dancing across the sky. At the other side of the scale is Uranus and the Moon in Aries all geared up for the Lunar Eclipse. In the sign of Aries, we have passionate and courageous energy coercing the Planet of Revolutions, Uranus, and Mother Moon to be bold and maybe even “a little out of left field” as Uranus can bring on unexpected and electric vibrations. Under an Eclipse, something is to be revealed. The Libra/Aries axis depicts the theme of relationships and finding a balance with our individual needs and the needs of another. The Aries campaign with Uranus and the Moon will want to “awaken” to an insight based on feelings that face fears, address issues of independence/interdependence, and support authentic expression of the self without the need for approval. The Libra party ruled by the Goddess of Love, Venus wants “everyone to just get along” and enjoy romance in its desire for unity, equality, and love. Adding to the mix is a Triangle of Fire formed by Mars, Jupiter, and Uranus which may heat things up. Fire wants to ignite, follow intuition and inspiration so know that anything you have put on the back burner could have an opportunity to “light up”. Through alchemy, the process of heating up something until it is reduced to ashes is known as Calcination. In burning away what is no longer needed, outdated and limiting, we can face our ego’s grip and come closer to our Souls essence. With Pluto, Ruler of the Unconscious and Soul, causing tension for the Sun and Moon by “squaring” them, we can imagine some potent energy during this Eclipse. But fear ye not, as transformation heals and takes us to places we may have not yet imagined. The Moon is in Capricorn today adding a flavor supporting a serious and responsible mood for the day. Capricorn provides structure and organization but how do we get structured and disciplined regarding our emotions? Not to mention it will journey with the Lord of the Underworld, Pluto, who really good at bringing up repressed issues and is moving direct meaning no monkey-business. As opposed to Cancer, the opposite sign to Capricorn, who is highly emotional, Capricorn can be more grounded when it comes to emotional release. Capricorn would be inclined to say "okay, we will have a meltdown now for the next 10 minutes, then we will go do the dishes and take out the trash". Capricorn can create a safe container for feeling dark or traumatic emotions, and it wants to be efficient and good at it, so that it can teach others. So pay attention to what may be arising in you over the next few days. Is it an old habit and/or is something masquerading as a big issue that is truly rooted in an old hurt?
We are also at the 1st Quarter Moon phase which means we may have come across some challenges since our New Moon intention a week ago, and it is time to make decisions to address any issues and take some action to fulfill our Full Moon desires. As Capricorn is part of the Cardinal signs. this means it is initiatory, and can prompt change in a new direction. As the Moon Squares the Libra Sun, the Moon says "yeah, yeah, you want to portray peace and harmony and have no ruffled feathers, we need to have some discipline around here", and the Sun says "please if you must be so dignified and dry in expressing your emotions, maintain some level of balance so emotions can flow out and move through you!" |
