Over the river and through the woods, To grandmother's house we go; The Moon will meet up with the Sun today in the sign of Sagittarius. At 7 degrees Sagittarius, these two luminaries will converge and the Moon will not be visible to us as it is occluded by the Sun. In this New Moon phase, we have the birthing of a new cycle for the Moon. Under the archetype of Sagittarius, we find the Philosopher, Explorer, Teacher, and the Gypsy. The sign is compelled by the quest for truth with the belief that the meaning of life lies just around the next corner, just past the next mountain range, just ‘over the river and through the woods.’ Known for a sense of optimism and enthusiasm, the Sagittarian seems primed to take on the adventure wherever it may lead. On November 28, 1964, the Mariner 4 spacecraft launched its mission to Mars. It was our first exploration of the Red Planet, and the images produced seemed to indicate Mars was a lot like the Moon. The images taken by NASA were blurry and pixelated by today’s standards in photography, but for the time they were quite monumental and influential. The photos showed a heavily cratered surface. From what we could see, we made observations. In the spirit of understanding, scientists believed there was no life on Mars. In 1971, the Mariner 9 produced images that revealed a varied surface more Earth-like- with canyons, valleys, and even the potential for water. The assumption that there was no life on Mars now proved inconclusive. In our lives, we form our world view based on our experience. The Sagittarian, when optimally guided, resists the temptation to ‘jump to conclusions’. If the energy is well exercised, this fiery sign keeps seeking, and does not rest. For the journey of life is seen as a continuous adventure, each experience leading one closer and closer to the truth of it all. Yet, the idea is to never settle, never stop the foraging, as the continued influence of life takes us to places we cannot yet even imagine. Under this New Moon, the Sun and Moon are ‘squaring’ the lunar nodes. In evolutionary astrology, we would view this as a ‘skipped step’ in the life. A ‘skipped step’ is a something that gets in our way, we cannot see past it, it can blindside us as we may want to ‘skip’ over it or pretend it is not there. It is a problem for us. Unfortunately, avoiding it or going around it does not work and we must integrate that part of us that may seem at cross-purposes to our aims. With a South Node in Pisces, we may a tendency in our collective to want to live ‘checked out’. We may resist concrete reality or want to see life through rose colored glasses- enchanted by the illusions and imagination, or we could become depressed. We can find ourselves taking on the role of the victim, martyr, or savior as we try to navigate this realm of interconnected feeling with everything. The totality can lead to confusion, delusion, and a desire to isolate. We are advised the future lies in moving towards the North Node in Virgo. Virgo is a practical sign rooted in the Earth, who is most happy when using its discernment to make improvements and be of service. Our aim is to take all the lessons learned under the Piscean landscape and bring it into form. But first, we must work through our ‘skipped step’. What could we be blind to in our lives? Are we viewing our world with limits? Have we forgotten the ways that life unfolds in sometimes unexpected and surprising ways? Have we stopped exploring and seeking truth? Can we allow ourselves to operate from a place of not knowing what lies around the next bend? For we know that in the spirit of potential and optimism, great feats of man have been accomplished. Dreams that are believed, can come true. It is this fire within that we want to keep ignited, allowing ourselves to ‘keep the faith’ that something good, something insightful and expansive lies just beyond the horizon. We need this faith now, even though at times, we take all that we ‘know’ and believe we already ‘know it all’. History and human experience have shown, life is journey with twists and turns we could not plot on a map ahead of time but need to engage the quest in its unfolding. And in Sagittarius wisdom, we are encouraged to BELIEVE. Believe in all possibility, whether rational or not. Like the early pictures of Mars, we recognize that the reality we know today is based on what we can observe, and what we can observe now may be different tomorrow. So plant seeds on this New Moon, to be open to more. To be blessed by experiences that expand your world view, and stimulate the adventurer in you to keep seeking. To keep believing.

The Sun has entered Sagittarius from Scorpio a few days ago. A transition in archetypal energy from the Psychotherapist/Investigator to the Philosopher/World Traveler. Scorpio’s element is water, in a fixed mode, and Sagittarius is fire in the mutable mode. We often associate Sagittarius as the ‘life of the party’ as they can be adventurous, optimistic, extroverted, spontaneous, and just quite ready to ‘have a good time’. Their ruling Planet Jupiter, is the largest Planet orbiting the Sun in our Solar System, and likewise people influenced by this giant may seem to have a big supply of energy. The quest for the meaning of life is quite invigorating, and the feeling that the answer may lie just around the next corner, keeps these folks batteries charged. For all of us, this energy can facilitate bringing people together to ‘tell tales’, and share their beliefs in life’s unlimited potential and possibilities. Other key Sagittarian players today include Saturn and Mercury. As Mercury has just moved past Saturn, we say it is in a ‘new phase’ to Saturn. This can lend itself to thinking about things in a ‘new’ way or having a shift in perspective that can be like the birthing of fresh idea. May we all be inspired to open our minds! Caution here that Sagittarius has the potential to become ‘fanatic or preachy’ if taken to the extreme. The Moon today is in Libra which can help us ‘all get along’, as this sign desires balance and cohesion. Libra likes to know ‘both sides’ of a story, or all possible perspectives, before settling on a decision. With the close proximity to Jupiter in Libra, the heart may feel some ‘oomph’ to get to an equal playing field in our interactions, adding the enthusiasm to really start to understand all viewpoints. Mars, in Aquarius, is in a flowing trine to the Moon for much of the day. This triggers the desire to see things from an aerial perspective or ‘take a step back’ to see the ‘big picture’. How could all the pieces fit together way perhaps not considered? Aquarius looks beyond the conventional logic and can be stimulated by injecting an alternate perspective. With Aquarius promoting authenticity and individualism, taken to an extreme, it can become the outcast or the madman- fixed on its opinion, without a care in the world what others think. Ideally, we allow for our unique and individual voices to bring our communities together, rather than walls of separation. One more truly significant Planet today is Pluto. Although, sometimes lowered in status to “dwarf Planet” as it is smaller than our Moon, anyone who has traced this Planet’s effect knows that ‘size’ does not really matter. Pluto has an impact, and governs our unconscious, or as we say ‘our soul’. As Pluto ‘squares’ Jupiter today, we will want to try our best not to ‘act out’ what may be simmering in us. We can project our shadow on to others, so best to get clear about what is ours. With Venus ‘rubbing shoulders’ with Pluto, it is ending in its final phase letting go of some of our ‘conditioned’ tendencies in preparation for the ‘new phase’ coming tomorrow. We may come to some conclusions around our relationships and choose to enter a place of surrender in order to move towards acceptance and forgiveness. As we join with family and community today, may we all remember we have so much to be grateful for. We can choose to rise above the fear and worry that has begun to grow like wild weeds as we anticipate our uncertain future, and choose to be thankful, if just for today. Much love and peace to all of you! Thank you for being YOU! Xo, Jen “Don’t turn that dial”. Neptune has been in “retrograde” motion since June 14, 2016. When Planets are in retrograde, they appear to be spinning backwards in relation to Earth. During these times, the energy of the Planet turns more inward as it ‘rewinds, reviews, reconsiders, revises’. Today it “Stations” or STOPS as it gets ready to move “Direct” or forward tomorrow. Now Neptune would read all that I have written above and say, “huh, what?! I just go with the flow, you are carrying on about so many details and facts, just be here NOW”. Neptune lives by the rhythm of the moment, the breath, and times when we may get lost in the melody of music or the beauty before our eyes. Neptune embodies the concept of no separation between ourselves and anything around us. We are all seen as coming from the same essence, the same root, the same light, that we may refer to as the Divine, God, Allah, Creator, Krishna, Goddess, Yahweh, Source, and many other names for that which lies beyond the veil and offers unconditional love. To get to this essence, we have to “let go” of factual, hard lined reality, and step into the realm of intuition, feeling, and faith. Synchronicities belong to Neptune. Neptune loves dreams in which it can foster imagination and creativity with unlimited possibility. Sometimes what occurs in the dream world will not make sense to us initially in waking life. Sometimes when we finish meditating, we may have to take a moment to transition back into our three dimensional reality. Sometimes it will all seem like an illusion. As we know every front has a back, every light has a shadow, every day has a night- so Neptune’s low side expression would be illusion- smoke and mirrors. Getting lost in the trance leading to delusion, addiction or confusion as we forget to also stay grounded in our physical bodies. With Neptune retrograde for the past five months, we may have felt we were looking within for our higher purpose or what visions we hold for ourselves. We may have noticed synchronicities or coincidences that confirmed we are not in a completely linear universe. We may have had a heightened sensitivity to the world around us as Neptune touts “no boundaries” but only inclusion and oneness. This can leave us feeling energized or drained depending on what has been happening around us. The openness may have felt like too much leading to escapist behaviors found in all types of addictions where we feel the need to “check out”. Recently, Neptune joined forces with the South Node of the Moon. With the South Node in Pisces, we as a collective may have been duped or deceived by someone seeming to be on our side, but has their own agenda to become “GOD”. In carrying out this deception, they may manipulate people using illusions in order to further their goals. As Neptune moves forward, we may feel a bit more clarity as to how where we envision ourselves in the web of life. We may find opportunities to offer our compassion in the world. For in the field of no separation, we embrace ALL of our brothers and sisters. For we are ONE. |
