![]() Mars Meets Up with Pluto The Planet Mars has moved next to Pluto in Capricorn at 15 degrees on October 19th. Pluto governs the unconscious and the soul, while Mars executes our desires and our will. Pluto, it could be argued, is more passive as it roots into the subterranean depths of our awareness, and dredges up what is ready to be processed. Mars is the ‘go-getter’ of the zodiac and ‘makes things happen’ to satisfy our motivations. Through governing our will, Mars can be likened to the spark within that gets you out of bed in the morning. It is the part of you that decides “what’s next?” What paths will you go down, what roads will you travel? If we look at Mars cycles, we find that it takes 2 years for Mars to orbit the Sun. If we have 12 signs, Mars will spend about 2 months in each sign over the course of 2 years. If we take that cycle and break it down into phases, like the Moon, we would have just ended the balsamic or final phase. We would now have just begun a “new phase” when Mars crossed over Pluto on October 19th. The last time this happened was in mid-November of 2014. We can think back to the time frame of November 12, 2014 and recall what began during that time and recently reached completion. When we are in the New phase, the direction has not yet been defined. There are infinite possibilities as the birthing of potential arises. In this phase, it can be likened to being in the dark. You cannot see what is ahead but you can sense an air of excitement as the fires ignite within. It can be a naive time where we may stumble and trip on our own enthusiasm, but this is all part of the planting the new seeds for this 2 year Mars cycle. In the Tarot, this phase is likened to the Fool card where there is a “fresh start”. At this time, individually we can release the energy of the past 2 years that no longer motivates us. We can choose to forge a new path, explore new directions, and allow ourselves to try new things where we may fumble and fall due to our lack of experience. It is a time to be open to whatever arises and peaks your interest. A level of caution applies here too as Mars is the God of War so be aware of impulsive reactions. It is always in our best interest to respond and not react.
