![]() Solar Eclipse in Virgo 9 degrees 21 seconds of arc 2:03 AM PST On September 1, 2016, we have a Solar Eclipse. The Moon will eclipse the Sun and dim its light as it moves in front of this great ball of fire. As the Sun is our vitality and light bearer, we take notice when it goes into the shadows. The Moon relates to our emotional terrain and as its movement obscures the Sun, we can feel something dramatic, mirroring the unusual experience in the sky. Eclipses follow a 19 year cycle, returning to the same place they were 19 years ago. This would mean in September of 1997, there was a similar theme or life event occurring. As the Sun is so prominent in our “Solar System”, the events are rarely hidden from our view. Job and career changes, relationship changes, moving or relocating may occur under Eclipses. As we don’t expect the Moon to block out the Sun, we can find these changes feeling somewhat unexpected. What may appear sudden really serves to put us on the right track, no matter how far it may feel from where we were headed. To unpack the energy of this eclipse, we need to look at what Planets are forming an aspect to the Sun and Moon. Neptune is opposing the Sun and Moon. Whenever there is an opposing force, we are asked to bring something into balance. We strive to hear both sides, and aim towards a middle ground, appeasing both camps to a point that they can coexist. Neptune connects to the “ALL”, the infinite chasm of the universe, the non-rational, that plays in the arena of timeless and formless reality to connect with what we may call “God” or “Goddess”. Neptune spiritualizes us through connecting to something greater and giving us moments of “ahhhhh”. Neptune can also cause us to feel disillusioned, lost, confused and aimless as it opens a part of us connected to transcendent states. Addictions can be attributed to Neptune as they can take you out of concrete reality and into the abyss or getting you “high”. These can be shortcuts to nirvana but eventually do not hold water as the attachment to something to take you there eventually proves lackluster. The purpose is to remind us to have compassion and not get too caught up in the details of human existence, we are more than that. In steps Saturn who governs concrete reality and time, quite different energy than Neptune. Saturn in Sagittarius does seek answers to the great mysteries, however does want to make something tangible or be working towards a goal. We are being asked to harness how we get into our “zone” with Neptune and not just float off into the daydream but concretize it. Make something of it or at least feel a stronger connection to our “faith” centers, the part of us that believes in something. This Solar Eclipse is in the sign of Virgo. Virgo is known for being busy in the world, always paying attention to details and moving about from one task to another. It is motivated by service and improving something. Virgo feels validation from seeing order amidst the chaos and knowing how to make things better. Virgo in its less than optimal expression can get too hung up on details and take on a “glass is half empty” type of viewpoint, getting paralyzed by the imperfections it sees. Ideally we harness compassion, slow down, consider and review what we know and perhaps take a little bit different approach in moving forward. The Eclipse may have brought up something for us to address, something that is that shadow part of us that we want to heal and improve. Our egos may feel a little bruised as we address what may have shifted in us. New Moons are seed times. With the theme of Virgo, we can plant seeds with the intention of improving ourselves. Think back to the time of September 1997 and what was occurring then. What have we learned since then that we can apply to our current dilemmas? If we can hold true to ourselves with the understanding that we are connected to something so vast and infinite, we can move mountains by putting one foot in front of the other, with the awareness that there is a higher purpose. We can strive to reach our own definition of perfection. The hiccups and changes are trying to bring us closer to our truest selves and our souls desire to grow and evolve during this lifetime. Find where 9 degrees of Virgo lands in your natal chart to understand the areas of your life that are being triggered right now. For me personally, I was embarking on a new business venture in 1997, opening a gift store in San Francisco that would carry imports from Bali, Indonesia. I was navigating the terrain of a new career, self-employment, a new puppy, and my overall my community and social sphere was changing as Virgo hits my 11th house. I remember it to be an exciting time as I let myself take a leap, yet a certain amount of uncertainty was also hanging in the balance. I can reflect on that time and where I am now on my life journey, trying to bring forward some of the lessons learned.
